Cashew industry seeks government assistance
The Vietnam Cashew Association has turned to the government for credit support to help processing businesses and farmers cope with falling global prices and slowing consumption. In a petition to the prime minister, the association, also known as VINACAS, asked for banks to lend cashew farmers and businesses VND6.7 trillion (US$375 million) for the domestic production of 450,000 tons of raw cashew, which is equivalent to 100,000 tons of cashew nuts.

Vietnams cashew export
Vietnam is estimated to reap 495 million US dollars from exporting cashew nuts this year, up 13.5 percent from last year, according to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development on Monday. Vietnam, the worlds second biggest cashew exporter after India, is intensifying trade promotion in traditional markets such as the United States, China, Australia, the Netherlands, England, Canada, Russia, Italy and Japan. Up to 41 percent and 25 percent of its total cashew export volume last year went to the United States and China, respectively.
